Born in Salzburg in 1938, worked in a number of different professions before becoming a writer in 1967. He began by writing short stories, some of which appeared in Stuttgarter Zeitung. From 1973 on, novels and stories - some adapted for television - along with other prose writings and publications in magazines. Two screenplays written together with Peter Keglevic under the title Die Jahre vergehen ("The Years Go By") appeared in 1981. Prizes won include the Österreichischer Staatspreis für Literatur, and the Preis des Kulturkreises im Bundesverbund der Deutsche Industrie.
