Born in Schleife near Weißwasser, a grandson of the
Sorbian writer Jakub Lorenc-Zefeski. From 1961-1972, on the staff
of the Institut für sorbische Volksforschung in Bautzen, from 1972-1979
a playwright at the Staatl. Ensemble für sorbische Volkskultur, and
a freelance writer since 1979. Author of countless publications in
German and Sorbian, volumes of verse, editor of free renderings and
adaptations. Winner of the Heinrich-Heine-Preis, Cisinski Preis, Heinrich-Mann-Preis,
and the Förderpreis Literatur zum Kunstpreis Berlin.
