Jury citation for the 2002 prize - EDIT Magazine

The Calw "Hermann-Hesse-Förderpreis" for German-language literary periodicals has awarded the 2002 prize to magazine "EDIT, Papier für neue Texte." Originally having grown out of a series of events and literary readings, the title has been appearing in Leipzig since 1993 and is published by a local literary association. In its citation, the jury highlights the role EDIT has played both as a magazine of discovery and a stage on which young authors - unknown or established - have been able to rehearse. Like virtually no other literary periodical, the magazine offers information and orientation on the rapidly changing topography of contemporary literature, while also promoting discussion through cleverly written essays and reviews. The high standards of literary analysis are echoed in a modern design with its clearly defined aesthetic and judiciously chosen selection of visual material, each issue constituting a cultivated and highly sophisticated "reading adventure."
