We have an amateur movie-maker to thank for the only - hitherto - known "moving images" of Hermann Hesse. The film made by Prof. Dr. Arthur Stoll (1887-1971) shows the writer with wife Ninon, son Bruno, and friends in front of his home, Casa Rossa in Montagnola, pruning roses, at his desk, and playing bocce in a "grotto." For all its technical shortcomings, the film footage makes for impressive viewing. We show you a ten-second clip from the film.
