Museums/Archives

Friends of Hesse will find that there are many museums and exhibitions featuring the writer's books, paintings, and documents,

- in Calw, the town of his birth

- in Gaienhofen, the place where Hesse started a family and built a house

- in Montagnola, where Hesse spent the greater part of his life

The Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach is home to a significant part of Hesse's literary estate

The Schweizerisches Literaturarchiv Bern  has preserved his library, part of his household effects, important manuscripts and correspondence, and around half of the surviving letters written to Hesse

At the Martin-Pfeifer-Archiv Calw, the extensive collection of materials of Hesse researcher Pfeifer have been made accessible
